Joe Rogan’s Meat Cooking Recipe

Joe Rogan cooks meat by using the reverse sear method. Normally, the meat is seared in high heat to lock the juices and then finished in the oven. The reverse sear method is exactly the opposite of this. In this process, the meat is first cooked in the oven and then seared over high heat.

Types of Meat best used in reverse sear method

The reverse sear method of cooking is best used for cooking meats of elk, venison, chicken, pork, beef, moose, and pork. It can be used to cook steak, tenderloins, roasts, and backstraps.

Among these, elk meat is a favorite of Joe Rogan and he’s stated that he would choose elk meat if he was given the choice to eat one food for the rest of his life.

Joe Rogan’s Meat Cooking Equipment

Joe Rogan uses a barbeque or oven pellet grill, aluminum foil, tongs, meat, thermometer, either gas or electric stovetop, and finally cast-iron skillet, frying pan or a grilling pan as his meat cooking equipment.

Joe Rogan’s Meat Cooking Ingredients

Joe Rogan’s meat cooking ingredients are a thick cut of meat, either kosher salt, sea salt or Himalayan salt, black powder, either garlic powder or garlic salt, and either grass-fed butter or vegetable oil.

Joe Rogan Meat Cooking Steps

Joe Rogan uses the following steps to cook his meat. First, season the meat with garlic powder, black pepper, and kosher salt. Then he rubs the seasonings in the meat. Next, he slowly cooks the meat at a low temperature. This can be done by heating the oven, barbecue, and pellet grill to 275 degrees Fahrenheit. Rogan mainly uses the Traeger Ironwood 650 pellet grill for this. In case of using an oven , he places the meat on the wire rack in a rimmed baking sheet on a middle oven rack.

For gas barbecues, Rogan relies on turning the burners only on one side of the grill. Once it is preheated, he places the meat on the side with the burners off and then closes the lid. He also uses the Ivation Wireless Thermometer to check the temperatures while cooking the meat. In the third step, Rogan sears the meat over high heat. For this, he heats an iron skillet, then adds some grass-fed butter to it before adding the meat. Then he sears both the sides and the edges. The best would be to sear it till around 135 degrees Fahrenheit.

Next, it's time to either rest the meat in an aluminum foil for 10 minutes or slice and serve it directly. Rogan, however, prefers to rest the meat in aluminum foil for 10 minutes. Finally, it’s time to eat meat. Rogan usually adds a side dish of jalapenos and kale. He also likes pan-fried asparagus in coconut oil with garlic salt.
