Seven years ago, Nick Diaz's thoughts on marijuana were shared on BREALTV's The Smokebox. However, the sharing wasn't done by Diaz himself, instead, it was done by fellow Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu team member Kron Gracie. The Stockton icon is well-known for his recreational smoking.

During Gracie's interview, he touched on Diaz's views on the propaganda. Gracie himself revealed that he had smoked marijuana for the majority of his life but always struggled with thoughts about the drug's potential effects on his conditioning as an athlete.

"I've been smoking weed my whole life and now I feel like it's important for people to understand that you can be a functional athlete and smoke weed. I'm not saying you have to smoke weed all day long, I'm not saying you have to not smoke weed.
"Do it however you like. I'm proof that there is a balance. When I was a little kid, I didn't like to smoke weed before training, younger as I'm learning. But I always smoked weed after training, I always smoked weed at night."

At one point, the heir to the Gracie legacy began to struggle with his fear about how marijuana could impact his athletic career. Diaz, however, helped broaden his mind.

"At that age I thought, 'Man, weed is bad. I better stop for jiu-jitsu. I better stop because this is a bad thing.' And I had this whole propaganda in my head thinking that it was a bad thing. So I always tried to get away from it, but I always was like, 'No, I feel good when I smoke. I need this in my life.'
"So I would always have this battle in my head. But then I got to a point where I was with Nick [Diaz], and Nick's like, 'Kron. Dude, there's a propaganda around weed. Weed is not bad for you.'"
