UFC prospect Ian Garry feels like Sean O'Malley is "a bit dry"

'Sugar' Sean O'Malley is arguably known for his unique personality, flashy looks, and skill inside the octagon. But UFC welterweight contender Ian 'The Future' Garry doesn't see the hype and sees the bantamweight as "dry."

'The Future' has shown promise just one year into his UFC career, winning three straight inside the octagon and establishing himself as a tough matchup for most at 170lbs. The rangy striker remains unbeaten in his career, and although nothing has been confirmed, he will likely be back inside the cage sometime in early 2023.

While discussing Sean O'Malley's personality, Ian Garry gave his honest opinion on the No.1-ranked bantamweight. He insisted that there's nothing special about it, though he did make it clear that he's a fan of the rising star:

"Sean O'Malley is very recognizable, which is brilliant for fans, especially for casual fans... Being brutally honest, I like Sean, [but] I don't think he's got the best personality, he's a bit dry... He's not this exciting person that when he talks, you're like, 'Oh my god, you are lighting up my world.' The tone in which he speaks isn't that charismatic... He has great content on social media."

'Sugar' won a lot of plaudits last time out for his outstanding performance against Petr Yan in a matchup that many expected him to be easily beaten in. The 28-year-old put on a striking clinic, forcing 'No Mercy' to grapple. Though in the end, the judges sided with the American due to the damage he inflicted.

What's next for Sean O'Malley?

Sean O'Malley's huge win over Petr Yan was thought to be enough to earn the kickboxer a shot at the throne. Instead, as confirmed by Aljamain Sterling, the next bantamweight title challenger will be the returning Henry Cejudo.

While usually the top contender will sit out and wait for his shot at gold, there are too many killers at 135 lbs. The knockout artist will have to match up against another elite fighter to proceed in the division.

A number of matchups have been rumored for O'Malley, with the most likely one being a rematch against the single man to ever beat him inside the cage, Chito Vera. Both are bulldozing their way up the rankings, are on long unbeaten streaks, and have a backstory to make the bout that much more special.
