Dillon Danis was born on August 22, 1993 in New Jersey, United States of America. At a young age of 15, he took up training in jiu-jitsu followed by an incident at his school. According to his own admission, Danis was not a strong guy in his teenage years, to aid his strength and development in grappling he started wrestling while training at Parsippany Hills with his coach Jason Lodato.
Dillon Danis initially learned the technique of jiu-jitsu at Jamie Cruz’ academy while going through the belt system. He started taking trips to New York from age 17 to Marcelo Garcia’s academy and trained there. Danis’ hard work and conviction bore fruit in 2014, when he won several tournaments which earned him his black belt on April 13, 2015.
In 2016 Dillon Danis joined UFC superstar Conor McGregor’s camp as the main grappling partner of the former UFC double division champion. This further helped Danis into shaping his own identity as an individual, and with the traction he garnered, Danis got involved in several beefs and started becoming more vocal on his social media. This led coach Marcelo Garcia to distance himself from Dillon Danis fearing for the image of his academy.
Apart from jiu-jitsu, Dillon Danis also competes in mixed martial arts. He competes in Bellator MMA in the welterweight category of the promotion. Although with no fighting experience in mixed martial arts on the amateur circuit, Danis was able to directly access a contract from Bellator. He made his professional mixed martial arts debut on April 28, 2018 against Kyle Walker.
