He was formerly the champion of two weight classes in the UFC, making him the fourth UFC fighter to achieve this feat. Cejudo is also the only individual to win both an Olympic gold medal and a UFC title, and his accomplishments in MMA and wrestling have earned him a place among the greatest combat athletes of all time.
Cejudo announced his retirement from professional fighting immediately after defending his title against Dominick Cruz on May 9, 2020. However, in April 2022, he returned to the sport and is currently in preparation to face Song Yadong at UFC Fight Night 252 on February 22, 2025.
Where is Henry Cejudo from?
No, Henry "CCC" Cejudo is not an immigrant; however, his parents, Jorge Cejudo and Nelly Rico, were immigrants in Los Angeles. Cejudo was born in Los Angeles, California, to Jorge Cejudo and Nelly Rico, who were Mexican immigrants. He is the second youngest of his seven siblings. Cejudo's family had to move around the Los Angeles area frequently due to his father's violent behavior and drug and alcohol abuse. When Henry was four years old, his mother took him and his siblings and fled to New Mexico to avoid his father's threats of violence.
After Jorge was released from jail, he was involved in a street altercation and was subsequently deported when Henry was six years old. Jorge passed away when Cejudo was around 20 years old.
After a few years in New Mexico, the family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where they lived in poverty in the Maryvale area, despite Nelly working multiple jobs to support them. Cejudo joined a residency program at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado, and he started competing as an amateur boxer, winning the state Copper Gloves boxing tournament in 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.
