Petr Yan is a professional mixed martial artist who is competing in the bantamweight division of the professional mixed martial arts promotion, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Yan was interested in combat sports from a young age and started training in Taekwondo when he was in the sixth grade. He later trained in boxing and became a Master of Sport in boxing in the 64 kg weight category. Yan completely transitioned toward professional mixed martial arts eventually and debuted at the Siberian League: Baikal Cup 2014 against Murad Bakiev. He defeated Bakiev and started his career with a win. Yan amassed a professional record of 9 wins and 1 loss before arriving at the UFC.

Petr Yan made his debut in the UFC on June 23, 2018, against Teruto Ishihara at UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Edwards on June 23, 2018. Yan shut Ishihara’s lights off in the first round and seized a first-round KO victory. He fought for the vacant UFC bantamweight title against Jose Aldo at UFC 251 on July 12, 2020. Yan secured a fifth-round TKO win to win the bantamweight championship. Yan later lost his title to Aljamain Sterling in a controversial DQ loss at UFC 259 on March 6, 2021. He faced Song Yadong at UFC 299 for his last fight and won via a unanimous decision.
