Jon Jones was born on July 19, 1987, in Rochester, New York, and is widely regarded as one of the best mixed martial artists of all time. Known for his long reach and his well-rounded style, Jones first stepped into the UFC octagon in 2008 and wasted little time in making a name for himself as an exciting new prospect capable of dominating opponents with ease. In March 2011, he defeated Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and became the youngest champion in UFC history at age 23. During his career, Jones has defended his title multiple times against elite fighters, including Daniel Cormier, Lyoto Machida, and Alexander Gustafsson.
Despite the brilliant career in the octagon, Jones’ career has been marred by controversies. These include suspensions for failing multiple drug tests and several run-ins with the law. His most infamous suspension happened after his victory at UFC 214 over Daniel Cormier. The fight was overturned to be ruled as a "no contest," and several other penalties were handed out to him, including a one-year suspension. Since then Jones has bounced back from these setbacks, making a successful return to the UFC in 2023, moving up to the heavyweight division in the process. He won the vacant UFC Heavyweight Championship in March 2023 via first-round submission against Ciryl Gane. On November 16, 2024, at UFC 309, Jones will try to defend the heavyweight title for the first time against the former two-time heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic.
