Jorge Masvidal explains what will earn him a shot at UFC gold

Jorge Masvidal finds himself in a strange position, having lost each of his last three fights inside the octagon. But he has now detailed how he believes he can earn a shot at UFC gold next time out.

'Gamebred' has been a mainstay in the UFC since debuting following the fall of Strikeforce in 2013. 10 years into his time in the octagon, the Miami native has managed to earn a wealth of success through his captivating personality and always-entertaining style each and every time he enters the cage.

Despite not managing to win a fight in the sport since 2019, Jorge Masvidal has explained what he believes will leapfrog him above the rest of the division and give him the next shot at Leon Edwards' welterweight strap:

"I gotta m*rder him. I gotta dump the whole clip in his chest. I gotta leave him without life for like five minutes in the stretcher, [while] the crowds going crazy. That's it. The deeper I bury him in the ground, the more likely I'm gonna get that title shot. A bullsh*t decision or squeezing somebody until the referee breaks us up and then squeeze him again as hard as I can until the referee breaks it up [again], those victories never get you sh*t. But when you take somebody's soul in there, that gets the crowd going, that gets the promoters going, that gets the matchmakers going."

Although he was knocked out against Kamaru Usman, Masvidal hasn't suffered a defeat to a striker since his decision loss to Stephen Thompson almost six years ago.

Leon Edwards' next fight: Will Jorge Masvidal skip the line and fight for the title?

Typically, a fighter on a three-fight losing streak would never be considered for a title fight. They would need to put together a string of wins before entering those talks, but Jorge Masvidal's case is a little different.

Although Dana White has insisted multiple times that Colby Covington will be next in line for a shot, it seems the 38-year-old veteran has a case to make if he can get past Gilbert Burns this weekend.

Masvidal and Edwards have a history following their bust-up post-UFC London in March 2019. This is a strong reason why the champion is keen on entertaining a possible clash between the two.
