ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion Joseph Lasiri lauded Allycia Hellen Rodrigues for putting her family first while she was at the pinnacle of her career.
Rodrigues will make her long-awaited return from motherhood to the competitive scene in a unification showdown against ONE interim atomweight world champion Janet Todd at ONE on Prime Video 5.
In light of Rodrigues’ announced return, Italian-Moroccan striker Joseph Lasiri (a family man himself) expressed his sincerest admiration for the young mother:
“For Allycia, I'm really fond of that woman because [we’re seeing] a 21-year-old woman win the title and be on top of her career and then come back in her life and accept a baby because it's the most important thing, to be a mom.”

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues made breaking news when she defeated Stamp Fairtex for gold in her promotional debut at ONE: A New Breed in 2021.
Although she was relatively unknown on the big stage, Rodrigues already held an impressive Muay Thai resume. This includes a victory over a 12-time WMPF World Champion.
However, in what seemed to be the new era of Muay Thai for Rodrigues, she decided to put her career on hold to start a family. Seeing her return again to defend her throne since giving birth to her son, Joseph Lasiri only had words of love and support for the Brazilian world champion:
“Like for a woman to be a mom, and for a man to be a dad, and accept that even if you are on top of your career … this means you understand what work, love, and life means.”
Joseph Lasiri evisions beating Rodtang at ONE on Prime Video 4
Joseph Lasiri envisions taking home a second belt if he defeats the unbeatable Muay Thai king Rodtang Jitmuangnon at ONE on Prime Video 4. The event is live and free to North American audiences with a Prime Video subscription.
Lasiri is coming into the foray with the biggest upset-win of his entire career. He defeated Prajanchai Saenchai for the strawweight gold by forcing him to throw in the towel in round three. The Italian firecracker is excited to bring the same kind of energy and emotion into his historic showdown with Rodtang.
Speaking to ONE Championship, Joseph Lasiri explained how he envisions beating the Thai phenom:
“My beautiful dream is when I fight Rodtang, it will be like Prajanchai. He goes back in the corner and he doesn’t come back to do the next round. This is my best dream, and I have seen it many times. That will be the best win for me.”
