MMA fighter Justin Ray Gaethje was born in the United States on November 14, 1988. He currently fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's Lightweight category (UFC). He was formerly the UFC's Interim Lightweight Champion. He is ranked No.3 among lightweights in the UFC as of July 2023.
Gaethje, hailing from Safford, Arizona, developed an early passion for wrestling starting at the age of four. He achieved notable success as a wrestler at Safford High School, securing the title of Arizona state champion twice. Additionally, during his enrollment at the University of Northern Colorado, Gaethje earned recognition as an NCAA Division I All-American in wrestling. While still in college, he embarked on his amateur MMA career, eventually turning professional in 2011. Gaethje's talents led him to join the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) in 2013, where he ultimately became the Lightweight Champion. He successfully defended his WSOF title on five occasions before deciding to join the UFC in 2017.
In his last outing, Gaethje faced off against Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286. Gaethje won the bout via a majority decision.
