Kai Asakura was born on October 31, 1993, in Toyohashi, Japan, and became one of Japan’s most popular MMA fighters known for his high-level striking game and vicious knockout power. Having grown up with his base in karate and later sumo, he pursued a professional career in mixed martial arts in 2012. Asakura continued to develop his skills within Japan's MMA promotions and exploded onto the international stage once he began competing in the RIZIN Fighting Federation. Asakura gained international recognition with his highlight-reel knockout of Kyoji Horiguchi in 2018 solidifying his reputation as a knockout artist. He became the RIZIN Bantamweight Champion after beating Hiromasa Ougikubo at RIZIN 23 in 2020.
As of November 28, 2024, Asakura holds a professional record of 21-4-0, with 13 wins coming via knockout. Now transitioning to the UFC, Asakura is set to make history by challenging Alexandre Pantoja for the UFC Flyweight Championship in his debut fight at UFC 310 on December 7, 2024.
