Khamzat Chimaev’s Career in the UFC
Khamzat Chimaev, one of the most gifted athletes in the UFC, made his promotional debut in July 2020, winning a middleweight bout against John Phillips and earning a Performance of the Night award. Just ten days later, he secured a victory against Rhys McKee in a welterweight contest, setting a record for the fastest consecutive wins in modern UFC history.
Chimaev continued his remarkable streak with a 17-second knockout of Gerald Meerschaert in September 2020. He was slated to fight Leon Edwards in December 2020 but faced COVID-19-related setbacks, leading to multiple fight cancellations. Chimaev briefly announced his retirement in March 2021 but later returned in October 2021 with a technical submission win over Li Jingliang.
In April 2022, he went to war against Gilbert Burns and won via unanimous decision and earned Fight of the Night honors.
