Islam Makhachev breaks Khabib Nurmagomedov's record at UFC 311

Makhachev defended it for the fourth time at UFC 313 by submitting Renato Moicano with a first-round D'Arce choke. His previous three defenses were two wins against Alexander Volkanovski and one over Dustin Poirier.

Makhachev is also the fighter with the third-highest submissions in the lightweight division, behind Jim Miller and Charles Oliveira. Taking his unbeaten streak to 15, Makhachev is now one win away from tying with Anderson Silva's historic record of the longest undefeated run. Jon Jones would've been at the top of the list with 20 victories in a row if his second win over Daniel Cormier had not been overturned due to a positive drug test.

Merab Dvalishvili fought Umar Nurmagomedov with a barely-recovered leg

Ahead of UFC 311, Merab Dvalishvili said that he suffered from an injury throughout his fight camp but was competing nevertheless. He refused to elaborate on the nature of the ailment at the moment to not worry his fans.

However, fans got a hint that it could be a staph infection from the official photoshoot as well as a vlog with Stun Gun Kim where he revealed cuts all over the shin area of his right leg. Dvalishvili explained that he got the cuts in an altercation with a drunk individual.

At the post-fight conference, the Georgian confirmed that he was indeed suffering from an infection in the cuts up until days before the fight. It impacted his training and sparring sessions immensely, he revealed.

Dana White pronounces Islam Makhachev as his No. 1 P4P fighter

Dana White heaped praise on Islam Makhachev at the post-fight press conference after UFC 311. The CEO stated that the Dagestani took the last-minute opponent change from Arman Tsarukyan to Renato Moicano "like a stud" and was ready to fight anybody.

When a reporter pressed about whether Makhachev is now the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter on his list, White finally gave him:

"Yeah, yeah. I'll give it to him. Are you happy? Is everybody happy now?"

White's quip is about the long-running joke in the MMA community about him considering Jon Jones the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world and making it a point to talk about it in multiple interviews.
