Ranked as the No.10 fighter in the featherweight division (145 lbs) of the Ultimate Fighting Championship as of April 3, 2025, Murphy's journey in combat sports began in 2013, three years before making his professional MMA debut. Moreover, he is the nephew of Manchester-based boxing coach, the late Oliver Harrison.

Murphy then moved to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where he battled Zubaira Tukhugov in his UFC debut at UFC 242, which ended in a split draw after a very close fight.
