LOOK: Danielle Kelly earns 1st degree black belt in jiu-jitsu 

Danielle Kelly has received her 1st degree BJJ black belt.

Becoming a jiu-jitsu black belt is a treacherous journey that few people worldwide will ever accomplish. After over a decade's worth of hard work, Kelly has reached another milestone by being awarded a 1st degree black belt from her BJJ instructor Karel Pravec of Silver Fox BJJ.

The 27-year-old atomweight posted a special moment on Instagram with the caption:

“Got my 1st degree! I feel old now lol. Happy to be under @silverfoxbjj for 5 years now. Always will be grateful to be apart of this team.”

Kelly revealed that she has been training at Silver Fox BJJ for five years. The Philadelphia native is part of a legendary lineage that features Kano Jigoro, Tomita Tsunejiro, Mitsuyo Maeda, Carlos Gracie Sr, Helio Gracie, Rolls Gracie, Carlos Gracie Jr, Renzo Gracie, and Pavec.

Kelly made her ONE Championship debut in March 2022 against Mei Yamaguchi, ending in a draw at ONE X. Eight months later, the new 1st degree black belt returned against Mariia Molchanova at ONE on Prime Video 4, winning with a rear-naked choke in the first round. She is expected to return on February 24 for her third match with ONE.

Danielle Kelly takes on Ayaka Miura at ONE Fight Night 7

Danielle Kelly made a statement the last time she competed in the Circle. The 27-year-old hopes to use her momentum to secure another highlight-reel finish on February 24. She will be taking on former strawweight MMA world title challenger Ayaka Miura.

Miura last fought in April 2022, losing by a second-round finish against Dayane Cardoso. ‘Zombie’ has won four fights in her ONE Championship run, with all of her wins by submission. The 32-year-old now gets an opportunity to show off her grappling skills against a top-tier BJJ practitioner.

Kelly vs. Miura goes down at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video. The event is headlined by the vacant bantamweight world championship rematch between Fabricio Andrade and John Lineker. In the co-main event, Tawanchai PK.Saenchai is looking to defend his featherweight Muay Thai title for the first time against Jamal Yusupov.
