Luis "Pantera" Nery, from Tijuana, Mexico, was born on December 12, 1994. He is a two-time world champion in bantam and super bantam titles, winning 35 of his 36 bouts, of which 27 were knockouts. During his amateur career, he had only nine matches, winning all and five were knockouts.

After turning professional at the age of 17, he won 31 straight fights before having his first defeat of his entire professional and amateur career against Brandon Figueroa in May 2021, where he was defeated by a knockout in the seventh round.

Nery also had his share of controversy in the past, with his 2017 fight with Shinsuke Yamanaka for WBC and The Ring Bantam titles, where he defeated Yamanaka in four rounds, but a pre-test fight flagged him positive for Zilpaterol, a banned drug.

The Ring stripped himself immediately of the title while WBC took his side, as he claimed that he ate beef, and its source used the drup to increase beef's size. Regardless, he was scheduled for a rematch seven months later, defeating Yamanaka in two rounds, but he missed weight by three pounds. After which, the Japanese Commission put a lifetime ban on him for fighting in Japan.

Pantera has 27 knockouts on his professional record (77.14%), including the WBC Super Bantam title (2020–2021), the Ring (2018), and the WBC (2017) Bantam titles. The Japanese ban was lifted in 2024, given that he had scheduled a fight with Japanese undisputed champion Naoya Inueo on May 6, 2024, in Tokyo, Japan.
