She made her professional debut on July 22, 2016, against Kenia Rosas at Legacy Fighting 58 and won the fight via a unanimous decision to start her career with a win. Over the years, Dern has gone up against some of the toughest names to ever compete in the strawweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Before signing up with the UFC, Mackenzie Dern competed in various promotions like Legacy FC, LFA, and Invicta. At the time of her UFC debut, she signed a UFC contract with an undefeated win streak of five victories in early 2018.
