Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker faced each other at UFC 294 on October 21, 2023, for the first time in a light heavyweight showdown. The leading light heavyweight fighters were going head-to-head against each other to strengthen their chances for a potential title shot. The bout was thus ruled a no-contest.
Ankalaev's clinical victory in the bout has further consolidated his position in the promotion's light heavyweight division's standings.
