Martin Nguyen believes Australian fighters are primed for an appearance on ONE Championship’s global stage.
A representative of both Vietnam and Australia, ‘The Situ-Asian’ is one of the most successful stars in ONE Championship history. In 2017, Nguyen made history by becoming the promotion’s first two-division world champion and has established himself as one of the most prolific finishers in ONE history, boasting an incredible 91% finish rate inside the Circle.
Ahead of his return to action at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video this month, Martin Nguyen spoke with ONE Championship about the potential pool of Australian talent that are ready to make their mark in the Asia-based promotion:
“100%. There are a lot of untouched Australians ready to make their international debut. And in saying that, the more the merrier. And finally, we can probably have a huge Australian cut.”

Not only does Nguyen want to see a new crop of Australian breakout stars, ‘The Situ-Asian’ is still eagerly awaiting the promotion’s long-awaited debut in the land down under:
“I’ve been saying it. I'm coming on to my ninth year fighting for ONE Championship. And you know, I'm still waiting.”
It may be a while before we see ONE head to Australia, but you don’t have to wait long to see Martin Nguyen back in action. The fan-favorite will step into the Circle on February 24 for a showdown with undefeated Russian standout Shamil Gasanov.
ONE Fight Night 7 is set to happen in U.S. primetime on February 24 and will be broadcast live and for free on Prime Video for Amazon subscribers in North America.
Martin Nguyen believes ONE Championship’s U.S. debut will open door to other countries
ONE Championship may not be headed to Australia anytime soon, but the promotion will make its long-awaited debut in the United States on May 5. Emanating from the 1stBank Center in Colorado, ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video will be headlined by a ONE flyweight world title trilogy bout between reigning champion Demetrious Johnson and former titleholder Adriano Moraes.
Martin Nguyen is excited to see ONE Championship make its debut in North America and suggested that it could open the door to other potential firsts around the world, including a European invasion:
"The step into the US market is the first step of many. I feel that he's going to open all doors all around the world. We'll probably be going to Europe soon as well, like, you never know. Just got to prepare yourself for the best. The best is yet to come every single time."
ONE Fight Night 10 will also feature the return of ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt and fan-favorite Stamp Fairtex as she meets American rising star Alyse Anderson in an atomweight MMA bout.
