Matheus Nicolau is one of the leading flyweight mixed martial artists who are active on the UFC’s roster. He competed in multiple promotions prior to joining the coveted UFC where he has maintained a reasonable record while competing with the elite fighters of the promotion. Nicolau has competed in the bantamweight division and currently, he fights in the flyweight weight class.

Matheus Nicolau made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2010 by fighting against Pedro Alves Chalita. Nicolau exhibited a dominant performance by making quick work of Chalita with the help of a rear-naked choke making him submit in the first round. Nicolau had an undefeated run in his first seven fights and suffered his first loss in 2012 against Pedro Nobre who defeated him by first-round TKO.

Matheus Nicolau made his first appearance at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 2015 at UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Henderson 3. He faced Bruno Mesquita in a bantamweight bout and finished Mesquita in the third round by making him submit with the help of a Japanese necktie.

Matheus Nicolau will lock horns with Alex Perez on April 27, 2024, at UFC Apex in Paradise, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The duo will fight in the main event of the evening in a flyweight contest. The event was supposed to feature a flyweight rematch between Manel Kape and Matheus Nicolau. Initially scheduled for UFC Fight Night: Ankalaev vs. Walker 2 in January 2024, the rematch was canceled when Kape missed weight. Kape later withdrew due to a rib injury, and Alex Perez stepped in as his replacement.
