In January 2011, Jung (The Korean Zombie) was set to fight Rani Yahya at UFC Fight Night 23 but had to withdraw due to injury. He later faced Leonard Garcia in March 2011 at UFC Fight Night 24, winning via a twister submission, a UFC first, earning Submission of the Night and later Submission of the Year honors.

In December 2011 at UFC 140, Jung knocked out Mark Hominick in just seven seconds, tying a UFC record. He faced Dustin Poirier in May 2012, winning by submission in the fourth round, earning Fight of the Night and Submission of the Year honors.

Jung replaced Anthony Pettis to fight José Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship in August 2013 but lost via TKO due to a dislocated shoulder.

In 2014, Jung withdrew from a fight with Akira Corassani due to injury and later began his mandatory military service in South Korea.

Returning in 2017, Jung knocked out Dennis Bermudez and received his first Performance of the Night bonus.

In 2018, a scheduled fight with Frankie Edgar was replaced by Yair Rodríguez, with Jung losing by knockout in the final second of the fifth round.

In 2019, Jung won by technical knockout against Renato Moicano and by TKO against Frankie Edgar, earning Performance of the Night bonuses for both.

A fight with Brian Ortega was rescheduled to 2020, with Jung losing via unanimous decision.

In 2021, Jung defeated Dan Ige via unanimous decision and was promoted to a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

In April 2022, Jung was challenged for the UFC Featherweight Championship against Alexander Volkanovski but lost via TKO in round four.

In his upcoming fight against Max Holloway on August 26, 2023, at UFC on ESPN 52, The Korean Zombie lost via a KO in the 3rd round.
