Michael Bisping believes Jorge Masvidal shouldn't get a title shot against Leon Edwards off of the 'three piece and a soda' episode

Michael Bisping has weighed in on the possibility of a matchup between UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal.

In a recently released video to his YouTube channel, 'The Count' discussed the likelihood of Masvidal getting the title shot next. According to Bisping, the only reason 'Gamebred' could leapfrog Colby Covington for a shot at welterweight gold is because of his history with Edwards.

Bisping mentioned the infamous 'three-piece-and-a-soda' incident and argued that Masvidal should not be rewarded for that. He added that the altercation could prove to be a useful tool in the promotion of that fight, just as it did for the Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov matchup:

"The reason Masvidal would, I'm not saying should, would jump Colby [for a title shot] is because of the promo. It's because of the three-piece-and-a-soda and he shouldn't be rewarded for that. That's assault. Just because he did that backstage at a UFC event, he should not get rewarded for that. But it's a funny old world, isn't it? Look at Conor McGregor and Khabib, when Conor went out to Brooklyn and he did the whole thing with the dolly and the bus... The UFC could do a similar thing with the three-piece-and-the-soda... Wouldn't be as big... but still, promo footage like that definitely helps," said Michael Bisping.

Jorge Masvidal is currently on a three-fight skid in the UFC. Two of those losses have come in title fights against Kamaru Usman and one was against his friend-turned-foe Colby Covington. So, in an ideal world, the Miami native should not be next in line to fight for the welterweight championship.

What happened between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards?

The rivalry between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards goes all the way back to March 2019. 'Gamebred' took on Darren Till at UFC London and defeated him via knockout in the second round.

On the same card, Edwards faced off against Gunnar Nelson and edged out a split decision victory. Post-event, Masvidal was doing a backstage interview when Edwards interrupted him. The Miami native then proceeded to walk towards him and unloaded a barrage of strikes on Edwards.

Since the incident, there has often been talk of the two sharing an octagon, but to this date, nothing of the sort has materialized.

Edwards is now the welterweight king and Jorge Masvidal is currently going through a rough patch in the UFC. So, 'Gamebred' likely needs to get a few wins under his belt in order to face 'Rocky.'
