Mikey Musumeci says he’s coached himself his entire career and it has worked

Reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion 'Darth Rigatoni' Mikey Musumeci has developed a unique attitude towards learning on the mats. Interestingly, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert coaches himself.

While speaking on Fightlore, the American athlete explained:

"I’ve trained with many great instructors because I lived in so many different places and I’m grateful for everyone that’s helped me. But I’ve kind of had the mindset since I was 14, 15 years old as my own coach, you know? I was always just pushing myself in training."

Online instructionals have been key to developing the skills of Musumeci. He continued:

"I was just studying so many things, different videos on the computer. And I had my sister as well, and me and her would just train in the garage with each other every day. That definitely pushed me to evolve."

'Darth Rigatoni' is unbeaten in the circle thus far in his career. He will look to add a world title defense to his record at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video on January 13.

Mikey Musumeci to face Gantumur Bayanduuren

Gantumur Bayanduuren is a skilled grappler who recently earned a gold medal at the 2022 Sambo World Championships. In addition to his sambo skills, he has earned a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

'Darth Rigatoni' is looking forward to meeting this opponent in the ONE circle with the ONE flyweight submission grappling world title on the line. On Instagram, the grappling star shared:

"This time I will be facing the current combat sambo world champion in my weight class; he’s from Mongolia!! So amazing how One is helping our sport (jiu jitsu) grow and how international jiu jitsu is becoming. It should be an amazing match!"

Mikey Musumeci is a highly respected grappler with sharp skills. The ONE world champion has previously won several Brazilian jiu-jitsu world titles, including IBJJF four times, AJP Abu Dhabi World Pro, IBJJF Pan Championship, and several others.
