UFC News: Holly Holm to fight Germaine de Randamie for the UFC Women's Featherweight Championship at UFC 208

Holly Holm, a champion again?

The UFC has now introduced the women’s featherweight division and the battle for its championship will see former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Holly Holm take on Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208 in Barclay’s Center.

Holly Holm will look to cast away her recent bad spell in the Octagon, as she is on the back of two consecutive losses. The ‘Preacher’s Daughter’ made history when she knocked out then undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey to win the title. But soon she lost the belt to Meisha Tate at UFC 196.

She lost her opportunity to get back in the game when she was defeated by Valentina Shevchenko via unanimous decision back in July. Now she has the chance to be the first female fighter to become a two-division UFC champion and create history once again if she manages to beat de Randamie.

Despite the fact that Chris Cyborg is considered the best pound for pound female featherweight fighter, she could not partake in the Championship bout owing to effects of her last weight cut. It's a bittersweet moment for the former Strikeforce Champion who won’t have the opportunity to be the inaugural champion of the division she has ruled for years in other promotions.

Cyborg stated that she needed more time to recover and might be ready for action in March. However, according to Bjpenn.com, she feels that she is the real champion of the women’s 145-pound division.

According to Cyborg, she had never refused to fight for the inaugural title but only needed a month’s time more than the scheduled date. The former Strikeforce Women’s Champion feels it's unfair for Holm to get the shot at creating history after losing two fights back to back.
