Conor McGregor’s dream of being the first ever fighter to hold two UFC titles at the same time has been shattered by UFC President Dana White. The super-fight between McGregor and UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez was almost a surety until the UFC changed the plans for UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden.
The undefeated lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov will replace The Notorious, as announced by White, thus ending any hopes of witnessing another McGregor super-fight. A heated exchange of tweets between McGregor and Alvarez added more spark to the proposed bout yesterday, with the UFC lightweight champ trying to certain his chances for the big money fight.

Alvarez didn’t seem to be satisfied with his taunts and claimed that he would finish McGregor’s days of greatness. The online pokes appeared to be a path to hype the fight for UFC champ.
Soon enough, Conor’s head coach John Kavanagh’s tweets painted some hope for the possible fight that made fans wonder as to what’s next:
Despite the fantasy turning out to be almost a possible dream come true, Dana White stepped out into the Tweet exchanges to clarify that Alvarez won’t be fighting McGregor at UFC 205, but the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov will get his well-earned title shot.
The fan’s joy of McGregor getting a second chance to be a double champion was squashed by White with the latest announcement. Nurmagomedov soon jumped into the Twitter war calling McGregor and Alvarez chickens, and also thanking the UFC president for granting him a ‘generous birthday gift’.
The Eagle seems to have spotted his prey and his undefeated streak of 23 wins qualifies him to be the rightful number one contender for Alvarez’s lightweight title. The Russian is also known for his win over former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos.
The new title challenger promises to finish Alvarez as soon as possible with no pain, referring to a quick slaughter of chickens.
The strangest point to be noted is the numbness of McGregor himself, who chose not to get involved in the tweet mania until the next day:
By the looks of it McGregor could go back to Featherweight to defend his title.
