He was born in Auchi, Nigeria, on April 1, 1989, and moved along with his family to Dallas, Texas, in his childhood. Mohammed Usman has two siblings named Kamaru Usman and Kashetu Usman.

His professional debut came against Derrick Willams at TPF 31: Diaz vs. Gibson, in the preliminary card of the event. Usman delivered an impressive knockout victory over Williams in the first round of the fight. He ventured into the Ultimate Fighting Championship and was welcomed into the octagon in his debut by Zac Pauga on August 6, 2022, at UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Hill.
