'Buchecha' looks to establish himself as ONE Championship's top heavyweight contender
Making his promotional debut at ONE: Revolution in September 2021, Almeida immediately established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division via his quickfire finish of Silva.
Over the next 11 months, 'Buchecha' would add three more wins to his resume, submitting Kang Ji Won and Kirill Grishenko and scoring a TKO against Simon Carson—all coming in the opening round.
However, the BJJ icon suffered his first setback at ONE Fight Night 13 last year when he ran into Senegalese sensation Oumar 'Reug Reug' Kane.
Almeida struggled to put Kane on the mat throughout their three-round monster mash, resulting in his first career loss in MMA.
Now, 'Reug Reug' will challenge three-division king Anatoly Malykhin for the ONE heavyweight MMA world championship at ONE 169 while Almeida will attempt to climb back into the contender's circle with a win over the streaking Aliakbari on the same night.
Fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE 169: Malykhin vs. ‘Reug Reug’ live on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, November 8 in U.S. primetime.
