It looks like Jarred Brooks has put the past behind him after crediting Mark Sangiao for producing world-class athletes at Team Lakay.
‘The Monkey God’ was in a state of catharsis following his victory against former ONE strawweight world champion Joshua Pacio in the main event at ONE 164.
The win didn’t come as easy as Brooks predicted as Pacio showed tremendous skill and agility in his defensive game. In past interviews, the Filipino striker mentioned working with Mark Sangiao and his teammates at Team Lakay, day-in and day-out, to help him build a strong defensive game against Brooks’ wrestling repertoire.
The hard work proved fruitful as it forced Brooks to switch to boxing mid-fight. ‘The Monkey God’ told SCMP MMA post-fight how much he admired the efforts and the good work Mark Sangiao has done for his athletes:

“Much respect. I mean, I respect them and they have a hell of a fighter and a hell of a squad for the past 15 years. Mark Sangiao, he’s done a lot with his team.”
Jarred Brooks’ victory added a new level of competitiveness after defeating the last of Team Lakay’s generational world champions. However, he admits the work is far from over. Brooks now has a belt to defend and it’s going to take twice as much effort to improve in all aspects of MMA.
Meanwhile, Joshua Pacio is looking forward to a potential rematch after dropping the belt to Brooks. It was a close fight after all, so he knows better than anybody that he can bounce back stronger and better than before.
