Du Plessis, who won the UFC middleweight championship after defeating Strickland by split decision in January 2024, has seen a meteoric rise in the sport. His latest victory over Adesanya has solidified his place as the first UFC champion from South Africa, and the fans seem to be getting creative in how they celebrate his success.

Fans quickly reacted to the cake online, with one fan humorously writing:

"He’s actually a high school bully at this point 🤣🤣🤣🤣"

Another warned him to be careful with the cake, suggesting that Adesanya might be coming back for his belt:

"[Israel Adesanya] be coming back for that belt so he better not be eating too much of that cake."
Another wrote:
"ok maybe I'm starting to like this guy a little bit"

Dricus du Plessis’ next opponent revealed; Dana White discusses hosting the fight in Africa

UFC President Dana White has confirmed that Dricus du Plessis will defend his middleweight title in a rematch against Sean Strickland. White made the announcement during the latest press conference for 'Dana White's Contender Series'.

He also discussed the logistical challenges of hosting the fight in South Africa, du Plessis' home country. The UFC has been aiming to bring an event to Africa, but concerns about venue availability and outdoor conditions pose potential obstacles:

"You know how bad I want this. I’ve been trying to get this thing done. The arena situation there is tough. It’s tough to pull off. So, that’s been the challenge with Africa as a whole. We’re trying to figure it out. The place that we would have to do it at is outdoors, and you know how I feel about that."

He further added:

"I’ve been hearing that wind is a big problem. We’ve done it a couple of times, but anything that can affect the outcome of the fight makes me not even want to try. So, you know, it’s anything from wind, rain, and bugs to too much humidity. A lot of things can interfere with the fight."
