Devin Haney suffered his first professional boxing defeat on Saturday against Ryan Garcia.

'The Dream' was beaten by longtime rival Ryan Garcia on April 20, 2024. Following the fight, some netizens alluded to Haney's recent signing with PRIME Hydration as a possible reason behind his defeat.

The PRIME brand was founded by US influencer, boxer, and WWE superstar Logan Paul with UK influencer and boxer KSI in 2022. With Paul and KSI as the brand's main faces, it's managed to sign a significant number of top-tier athletes and teams worldwide.

That includes soccer teams such as Premier League club Arsenal, Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, La Liga club FC Barcelona, and more.

Additionally, the brand has signed UFC stars like Alexander Volkanovski, Israel Adesanya, footballer Erling Haaland and boxer Devin Haney. As seen in the tweet below, a fan indicated that Volkanovski, Adesanya, Haaland, and Haney have suffered notable defeats recently.

Several fans suggested that the losses could be courtesy of a possible 'PRIME Curse.' Some fans even drew parallels between the purported 'PRIME Curse' and the infamous 'Drake Curse.' The latter is a sports myth that whichever athlete/team hip-hop megastar Drake supports or bets on often ends up losing.

One fan referenced Garcia's March 2024 tweet, wherein the boxing superstar had insinuated that the PRIME beverages were unhealthy. Another fan notably referenced Arsenal's surprising setbacks in the recent Premier League seasons and tweeted:

"Add Arsenal to that list"

Alternatively, multiple X users disagreed with the curse hypothesis. One fan pointed to NFL star Patrick Mahomes' Super Bowl success despite having signed with PRIME. Similarly, another netizen noted that perhaps only unbeaten boxer Terence Crawford, who's also been sponsored by PRIME, is immune to the curse. A fan tweeted:

"Well what about Terence Crawford"

When Ryan Garcia likened Devin Haney to the "devil" after PRIME signing

Ryan Garcia has lately been critical of the PRIME brand. The self-acknowledged devout Christian has implied that PRIME is associated with evil. As previously noted, in a tweet in March, 'KingRy' alleged that PRIME beverages were hurting consumers' health.

Soon after 'KingRy's' aforementioned tweet, PRIME tweeted that they signed Devin Haney. Garcia responded by reiterating that PRIME was linked to satanic entities. Labeling Haney as the devil, he wrote:

"Does not surprise me. Who else would satan support other than Devil Haney. More confirmation. Y'all support this I'm out. Kids are in danger from drinking this 'allegedly'"

The combat sports community remains divided regarding the supposed 'Prime Curse.'

As for Devin Haney, he's shot down reports of his alleged broken jaw and emphasized that he's eyeing another fight against Garcia wherein they both make weight. It's unclear whether they'll clash in an immediate rematch or face different opponents next.

Haney is still the WBC super lightweight champion since Garcia did not make weight.
