Adriano Moraes shares his appreciation for the friendship he's built with 'Buchecha'

Former ONE flyweight world champion Adriano Moraes has built a great relationship with a fellow, much larger, Brazilian on the ONE Championship roster.

Whilst Moraes has been a mainstay in the promotion since making his debut inside the circle 10 years ago, Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida has just recently exploded onto the scene in ONE Championship's heavyweight division.

The 17-time BJJ world champion made his transition into MMA in September 2021 and has since picked up four wins in his first four fights in the sport. With all of his victories coming by way of first-round finishes, ‘Buchecha’ is positioning himself for a shot at ONE gold, something Moraes has a wealth of experience in.

ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video will mark the 11th time Adriano Moraes has been involved in an undisputed world championship fight. His experience in the field has proved massively beneficial through his fights with Demetrious Johnson. He will need it once again if he is to get revenge on May 5 at the 1stBank Center in Colorado.

In an interview with SCMP MMA, ‘Mikinho’ spoke about how his friendship with Almeida first started and what they were able to offer each other:

“We became very good friends. He came over to American Top Team to get better on his MMA skills. He was already signed with ONE Championship. We helped each other. I helped him a little bit with the transition, he helped me out with jiu-jitsu."

Adriano Moraes explains the challenges of facing Demetrious Johnson

At ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video, Adriano Moraes will become the first man to ever face Demetrious Johnson for a third time. Whilst ‘Mighty Mouse’ has had some great rivalries throughout his legendary career, Moraes might know him better than any previous opponent of his.

With that comes the task of knowing what is ahead of him on May 5. Adriano Moraes knows that in order to end their trilogy with a win and claim his ONE flyweight world championship back from Johnson, he needs to produce a stellar performance.

This fight may be the biggest of Moraes’ career and has a stage deserving of that. ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video will be ONE Championship’s first event to take place in the United States.

With all of the stakes on the line, Adriano Moraes is excited to get the opportunity to share the circle with ‘Mighty Mouse’ for what will likely be the last time.

In the interview with SCMP MMA, ‘Mikinho’ detailed what makes Johnson so difficult as an opponent:

"He’s really great at everything, that’s why. His transitions. He does transitions in MMA very good. I think that’s the hardest part. His conditioning is really good. He’s one of the smartest guys in the game that’s why it’s so hard to fight against him. For me, it’s a pleasure to always share the ONE circle with a guy like him. We always learn a lot."
