Dustin Poirier is adamant that he has one fight left in his career and nothing has changed during the final few months of 2024. Three months after losing to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, Poirier confirmed on social media that he has one more outing left in him.

Poirier responded to a fan tweeting at him asking for "one more" from him. 'The Diamond' said he "will" make the walk again before his career is officially over and said he would "live and die" by that day.

Even though the tweet was not an announcement, fans were still excited to see the confirmation from Poirier. Many jumped ahead with their matchup predictions for who the fan favorite could face in his final fight.

One fan predicted that Poirier will fight former teammate Colby Covington, commenting:

"Against Colby Covington maybe?"

Poirier and Covington have a brief rivalry, with the latter calling out the 35-year-old after his last win at UFC 272. The two fighters trained together at American Top Team before 'Chaos' left the gym on bad terms and created a rivalry with many of its top fighters. Poirier is also a close friend of Jorge Masvidal, Covington's biggest rival.

Other fans wrote:

"No chance it's your last"
"How about like 4-5 maybe 10 more times cuz I ain't ready for you to retire just yet"
"Poirier vs. Hooker 2"

Dustin Poirier's final opponent

While Dustin Poirier is certain that he will fight one more time before retiring, he is less decisive on who he wants his final opponent to be.

Poirier has already fought most of the top contenders in the UFC lightweight division, including all of the stars in the weight class.

The one fighter 'The Diamond' has a history with who he was rumored to fight and never did is Nate Diaz, though the 39-year-old remains a free agent and not a member of the UFC roster.

Poirier, however, still likes the matchup and would welcome it if it was presented to him.

Poirier has been direct in saying he will only accept a fight that excites him, which leaves only a few options on the table.

He is 1-1 with Justin Gaethje, with Poirier losing via knockout at UFC 291. Perhaps that could make a trilogy the most likely next matchup for both fighters.

As of September, the Louisiana native is still without his final fight booked and will likely not compete again until 2025.
