Chael Sonnen has shared his stance on the controversy swirling around the UFC 294 bout between Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker, a match that ended in a rather heated manner.

The battle began with Johnny Walker initiating the action with a leg kick, swiftly met with a counterstrike from Ankalaev. The two fighters traded blows, but the fight took a critical turn when Ankalaev delivered a knee to Walker's chin while the Brazilian's knee was grounded. Referee Dan Movahedi stepped in to assess the situation, leading to a crucial doctor's intervention.

The cage-side doctor's assessment eventually led to the declaration that Johnny Walker could not continue. The outcome, deemed a no-contest due to the unintentional illegal knee, left both fighters visibly frustrated. This controversial decision didn't escape the attention of fans, including UFC President Dana White, who labeled the doctor as "inexperienced."

Chael Sonnen, however, deviated from popular criticism. In a post, he wrote:

"The Doc asked a standard question. Whether the athlete is fainting confusion or legitimately has confusion, the doctor was right to defer to the response made. The mistake here was done by the referee who should have called this a disqualification."

Responding to his post, one fan commented saying:

"1. The doctor did not give Johnny sufficient time to recover before talking to him 2. He asked Johnny where he was and Johnny replied “in the desert” which was the correct answer"

As fans reacted to his post, Sonnen engaged in discussions, defending his perspective on the incident:

"Nothing you just said is wrong, but you do not understand the rule or its intended application. The conversation between the doctor and Johnny has nothing to do with the fact that an illegal strike was thrown. The remedy for that occurrence is disqualification. Everything else you’re saying is moot."
