Former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski briefly explained why he won't pursue a color commentary role with the company once he steps away from the octagon.

Volkanovski suffered back-to-back losses, with his most recent defeat coming at UFC 298, where he faced Ilia Topuria and lost his 145-pound title by knockout in the second round. Since then, Volkanovski has made it clear that he wants nothing less than a title fight and is actively seeking a rematch with the Spaniard to reclaim his belt.

‘The Great’ recently did a Q&A with fans on his YouTube channel and one fan asked if he plans to become a UFC commentator once he retires from the octagon. Volkanovski dismissed the idea, emphasizing that there are already great commentators like Daniel Cormier, Michael Bisping, and Jon Anik.

Volkanovski said:

“Not. You’ve got guys like DC, Bisping, and Jon Anik who are great at it, but they’re traveling the world, constantly on the go. I don’t think I could commit to something like that. I’ve already committed enough of my time away from my family. I’ve tried to build what I can for my family, and I want to enjoy that time with them."

Ilia Topuria’s coach dismisses the chances of a rematch with Alexander Volkanovski

After dethroning Alexander Volkanovski and taking the featherweight crown, Ilia Topuria successfully defended his title against Max Holloway at UFC 308 and won via knockout in the third round. In his octagon interview, the Spaniard promised Volkanovski a rematch.

However, a few weeks ago, Topuria revealed his plans to move to lightweight and is considering vacating the featherweight belt.

Topuria's coach Jorge Climent was recently interviewed by Submission Radio. He confirmed Topuria's decision to move up to the division and also asserted that a rematch with 'The Great' isn't possible. Climent said:

"I don't think he is going to defend the featherweight title. I think he wants to go to lightweight... He wants to fight with ranked guys to go for the belt... If Alex fights at featherweight, I don't think [we will fight him again]."
