ONE lightweight kickboxing world champion Alexis Nicolas said his first meeting with then-divisional king Regian Eersel turned out the way he and his team prepared for the fight and he could not be more proud of it. It is something he is looking to have a repeat of in their rematch next month.
'Barboza' was a unanimous decision winner over 'The Immortal' in their title clash back in April to become the new lightweight kickboxing world champion. He had the number of Eersel for much of the contest, even sending the previously unstoppable champ to the canvas in the second round with a solid overhand right.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Alexis Nicolas spoke of his title-clinching victory over Eersel, saying:
"[I was] 100% [confident going to the scorecards]. Together with my team, I did what I can do. So the game plan was OK, everything happened the way I wanted it to, just that I broke my ankle at the start of the first round. That was the only problem. But everything was okay, my team was proud of me."

He hopes that with the victory, he gets to show that his first win over the Surinamese-Dutch fighter was no fluke and at the same time establish himself as a formidable force in the lightweight division.
ONE Fight Night 25: Nicolas-Eersel II will air live and for free to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
