Aljamain Sterling recently took a shot at Umar Nurmagomedov and the Dagestani fighters' fanbase following the latter's first-ever defeat in MMA.
Nurmagomedov challenged Sterling's close friend and teammate, Merab Dvalishvili, for the bantamweight title in the co-main event of UFC 311 this past weekend. 'Young Eagle' started the fight well and was ahead on judges' scorecards after the first two rounds. However, Dvalishvili's pressure and output saw the Georgian champion rally in the final three rounds, and he won via unanimous decision to retain the belt.
An X user expressed their thoughts on the bout's aftermath, speculating why many MMA fans are celebrating Nurmagomedov losing the '0' on his record.
''Umar Nurmagomedov lost the fight, it was a close fight but he lost. did he get injured? yes but it was during the fight so it's fair game...The future is bright but just accept the loss my brothers. As for the MMA community being this happy that Umar lost, it's ok they never saw Khabib lose so they're latching on to the closest thing associated to Khabib, It's years of built up anger and frustration coming out.''

Sterling agreed with most of the above perspective but added that fans of the Dagestani team are quite inappropriate towards other fighters to begin with. The former champion wrote:
''I agree with everything except the ending statement. Ppl are this happy because their fanbase constantly gloats, boasts, and bash other fighters chasing a dream. All haram. What is there not to be happy? Do you finally understand or still blind to this?''
