Aljamain Sterling, the former UFC bantamweight champion, isn’t the one to hesitate in expressing his thoughts. He recently addressed a fan on social media who alleged he was "jealous" of the illustrious career of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The exchange began when Sterling shared his perspective on the difficulties of sustaining a prolonged championship tenure in mixed martial arts. A fan perceived his remarks as a subtle critique of 'The Eagle', whose flawless 29-0 record and early retirement at the height of his career are often celebrated as one of MMA’s most outstanding achievements.
The fan wrote:
"Aljo constantly taking digs at Khabib because he is jealous of his career is lol . He using a few trolls which evey good fighter has on X. He using them to try and mock Khabib (Haram comment)"

The accusation arose from Sterling's critique of Umar Nurmagomedov after his bantamweight title loss to his teammate Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 311 this past weekend. The American's comments ignited debate online, with some viewing them as an effort to tarnish the Dagestani 135-pounder's success.
The controversy escalated when Sterling retweeted the following post from Home of Fight, which read:
“You know what makes Merab’s win even more incredible? He wasn’t born into a fighting family with the sole goal of winning world titles.”
