'Funk Master' transitioned to the 145-pound division after losing his bantamweight title to Sean O'Malley at UFC 292 in August 2023. He secured a dominant victory over Calvin Kattar in his divisional debut at UFC 300 in April.
Sterling was originally scheduled to face Evloev at UFC 307 on Oct. 5. However, the matchup was postponed to the promotion's final pay-per-view event of the year after the American sustained an elbow injury during training.
Aljamain Sterling eyes featherweight title opportunity with potential win at UFC 310
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show earlier this month, Aljamain Sterling shared his aspirations for featherweight gold, expressing confidence that a victory over the undefeated Movsar Evloev, currently ranked No. 5, at UFC 310 could bring him closer to a title shot:
"That O has got to go... I think a win over Movsar gets me in the title shot conversation... I think it's new blood. It's exciting... I don't even want to think about that right now. I have to win this fight to even get into that conversation, so I got a tough task in front of me in less than four weeks, and I'm just excited to shut this guy up once and for all."
