ONE atomweight Muay Thai world champion, Allycia Hellen Rodrigues cannot wait for the day when she can bring her son to the gym and show what she does. The Brazilian star made a successful return to competition last week after two years away to give birth and take care of her son.

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues defeated erstwhile interim world champion Janet Todd by unanimous decision in their unification bout at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video on March 24 in Singapore.

Despite not competing for some time, the Phuket Fight Club standout hardly skipped a beat and was her explosive self. She was particularly crisp from the third round onwards, where she inflicted a lot of damage on Janet Todd with vicious elbows and knees, including opening a nasty gash above the American’s eyebrow.

She kept the pressure all the way to the end, eventually earning the nod of all the judges. After the fight, the reigning champion shared that her son was one of her motivations in her return to competition and that she would love to share her journey with her young one in the future.

She told SCMP MMA in a post-event interview:

“He’s still too young, he doesn’t really understand what’s happened. But in the future he’s gonna for sure because he’s always in the gym with us.”

The unification bout may be just the first between Rodrigues and “JT” as the former is also interested in challenging for the ONE atomweight kickboxing world title that Todd holds.

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues was inspired by Angela Lee’s comeback as mom-champ

As she made her return to active competition, ONE atomweight Muay Thai world champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues drew inspiration from fellow world title holder and first-time mother Angela Lee.

The Phuket Fight Club standout saw similarities between her and Lee in working their way back from giving birth to their children and taking care of them. Like Lee, she also won her first fight back after taking a leave of absence.

In the post-event interview following her unanimous decision victory over Janet Todd at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video on March 24 in Singapore, Allycia Hellen Rodrigues shared how Lee served as an inspiration to her.

She said:

“You know how hard it is to come back from that situation, and I am inspired by Angela Lee. I saw the way she came back and how she kept the belt with her. I want to do the same and inspire people the way Angela inspired me.”

Rodrigues became the champion in 2020, defeating former division queen, Stamp Fairtex by majority decision.
