Allycia Hellen Rodrigues is fighting for both her and her son
The 24-year-old champ took time away from the circle to give birth to her beloved son. She's now competing for her him, telling ONE Championship:
“I never thought it would be the end because I’ve seen several fighters become mothers, and they continued their careers, so I knew it would never be a problem for me either,” Rodrigues said. “Angela Lee was also pregnant. She returned and continued to be the world champion. It changes nothing. It’s just a break from work.
Rodrigues added:
“Now I’m stronger because I fight for myself and for my son. I want him to be proud of me. Whenever I look at him, I have a lot of strength to go even further. I know what I’m doing will be very worthwhile for us and for our future.”
The Phuket Fight Club affiliate secured the ONE atomweight Muay Thai world title by edging out Stamp Fairtex via majority decision. She was then scheduled to face Todd last December, but the American tested positive for COVID-19.
Rodrigues will showcase her skills inside the circle for the first time in almost three years, as she looks to remind fans of her world-class talents.
Make sure to tune in to ONE Fight Night 8 on March 25 to watch Allycia Hellen Rodrigues face Janet Todd in an atomweight Muay Thai world title unification bout, live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
All of the action will be broadcast live and for free to Amazon Prime subscribers across North America.
