Alycia Baumgardner vs. Delfine Persoon: Live round-by-round updates

Alycia Baumgardner returns to the ring this weekend to defend her WBC 130-pound title against Belgium’s Delfine Persoon.

This marks Baumgardner’s first fight since her victory over Christina Linardatou last July, which was overshadowed by a positive test for a banned substance. After an investigation, Baumgardner was cleared of any wrongdoing, and her temporary suspension was lifted in March.

Baumgardner remains one of the top pound-for-pound female fighters, boasting notable wins over Terri Harper and Mikaela Mayer. She holds an overall 15-1 record with seven knockout victories.

Persoon, a former champion and highly experienced boxer, is best remembered for her two fights against Katie Taylor, which she lost by decisions. She holds an impressive 49-3 (1 NC) record.

The fight, set for Sept. 27 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, will be streamed for free on Brinx.TV and Fubo Sports. The preliminary card of the event will start at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 P.M. ET.

Round 1

Baumgardner opens up with triple jabs and a crisp shot to the body. The American sits down on the right hand to the body as Persoon tries to establish her footing. Baumgardner's jab is proving to be a problem for Persoon. A short overhand right for Persoon but Baumgardner answers back with a straight right hand and left hook that drops her opponent.

Baumgardner is pressuring her opponent against the rings and cuts angles in pursuit of closing out the action. She maintains composure and invites the fight back to the center of the ring. Another clipping right hand from Baumgardner and a bunch of short punches to close out another dominant round.

Baumgardner assumes center control and lands big shots against the ropes. A short left hook lands under Persoon's right hand. Persoon stifles her opponent with a left hook but Baumgarder landed the bigger shots in the round.

A straight punch to the body and a couple of jabs land for Baumgardner. Persoon lands two punches on the entry and a left hook.
