Demetrious Johnson said:
"Like you said, there might not be another Demetrious Johnson again. I’ve submitted a small piece of mixed martial arts… But right now, I don’t see anybody anytime soon who can replicate what I’ve done in mixed martial arts."
Johnson is undoubtedly one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time after he cemented his legacy in both ONE Championship and the UFC.
'Mighty Mouse' reached unprecedented heights in the United States when he defended the UFC flyweight title a record 11 straight times after becoming its inaugural holder.
In 2019, Johnson made the switch and debuted in ONE Championship, where he continued his legendary career.
Johnson, in just his third fight in the promotion, became the ONE Flyweight MMA World Grand Prix Champion when he beat Filipino star Danny Kingad in the tournament final in 2019.
He then captured the ONE flyweight MMA world title against Adriano Moraes at ONE on Prime Video 1 in August 2022 to become the first and only fighter in MMA history to hold world titles in ONE Championship and the UFC.
Johnson stepped away from the sport in September this year in an emotional ceremony during ONE 168: Denver at Ball Arena in Colorado.
Demetrious Johnson says he's grateful for ONE Championship's shared vision in his career
Demetrious Johnson couldn't be happier when he transferred to ONE Championship.
The former ONE flyweight MMA world champion said the promotion has a way of celebrating different martial arts and not just MMA.
In the same interview, Johnson said ONE Championship's equal focus on MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and submission grappling is what separates it from the competition:
"Yeah, 1000% that's what I think separates ONE Championship from the rest of the competition. It's not a mixed martial arts organization. It is the organization that celebrates all forms of martial arts."
