American superstar Mikey Musumeci says he “will ultimately be rewarded” after suffering a torn lung

Mikey Musumeci isn't letting a medical scare take away his positive attitude as he hopes for a potential return to action. The former ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion is currently in recovery after suffering a torn lung during ONE 168: Denver's fight week earlier this month.

Musumeci suffered from pneumomediastinum after he tried to do Rickson Diaphragm Breathing exercises.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, Mikey Musumeci expressed that his hospital stay is just another obstacle to overcome as he prepares to get back on the mats and reclaim the ONE flyweight submission grappling world title.

Musumeci wrote:

"When you have good intentions in your heart and strive to do good, no matter the challenges you face, even in times of misfortune, you will ultimately be rewarded. Unfortunate circumstances and hardships are simply obstacles that the universe/God places on our path."

He added:

"These challenges are part of our journey, and we must embrace them with gratitude, recognizing the lessons and growth they bring. God bless everyone. 🙏😊❤️"

Musumeci was supposed to defend the ONE flyweight submission grappling world title against two-time BJJ world champion Bebeto Oliveira but missed weight and hydration during the official weigh-ins.

'Darth Rigatoni' was ultimately stripped of his gold, but he said he's determined to reclaim his lost throne once he's back in full health.

He has since spent the past weekend recovering from pneumomediastinum in the hospital.

Mikey Musumeci continues to prove that he is of superhuman strength.

While most patients lose their appetites while in recovery, Musumeci decided to down his favorite Italian dish while staying in the hospital due to a torn lung.

Musumeci revealed in his Instagram Stories that he decided to gulp down an entire pie just to satiate his hunger and recover his strength.

He wrote:

"When the doctors in the hospital wanted to give me an IV, I told them just get me a pizza and I'll be all good 💀 shoutout to my mom for bringing me my favorite pizza @signorapizza @florianapastore to the hospital ❤️😭"
