Hard Days Night: Andrew Cain vs. Charlie Edwards

Round 1: This is a tale of two styles, with Cain applying pressure against the more mobile Edwards looking to maintain his distance and score from the outside. Cain is more active, though, forcing Edwards to fight a purely defensive fight so far.

Edwards is remaining elusive, though, doing his best to counter Cain's pressure. Shots from Cain find a home as the round comes to a close.

Our Score: 10-9 Cain

Round 2: More pressure from a relentless Cain. However, Edwards seems to have gotten his timing down, having used round one to analyze his foe's tendencies. While Cain is on the front foot, he isn't landing anymore, he's being made to miss far more.

Edwards counters him off the backfoot, landing some good jabs before cracking an advancing Cain with a straight left to end the round. Good round for Edwards.

Our Score: 10-9 Edwards, 19-19 overall

Round 3: More of the same in round three, with Cain struggling to trap Edwards against the ropes. It's a fight that's left wanting in terms of action, as Edwards is playing the matador to Cain's bull, but he isn't trying to risk anything by squaring his hips and landing with authority.

However, Edwards lands with occasional jabs and lefts to try and steal the round toward the end. This is tough to score.

Our Score: 10-9 Edwards, 29-28 Edwards overall

Round 4: Cain advances well, as always, but he's still struggling to land anything clean. Meanwhile, Edwards stays sharp on the backfoot, firing off jabs. Cain answers with a right cross, but Edwards wants no part of an exchange right now, and is just intent on playing a defensive role.

Cain is all pressure though. While he isn't doing anything truly decisive, he's more active and coming forward.

Our Score: 10-9 Cain, 38-38 overall

Round 5: A bit more urgency from Edwards, who is firing off his jabs and straights to ward off Cain's pressure. While Cain has managed to back Edwards up, he has struggled to trap him against the ropes. Edwards is just too elusive, landing jabs and straights.

It's starting to frustrate Cain, who is out of potential solutions to the puzzle in front of him. He isn't used to this kind of fight.

Our Score: 10-9 Edwards, 48-47 Edwards overall

Round 6: Cain's pressure is still there, but he just isn't landing as much. In fact, he's not really throwing that much either. Still, he's doing more than Edwards, who alternates between trying to outland Cain and neutralizing all engagement, depending on the round.

Not much in the way of landed shots, but Cain has been on the front foot like a man possessed.

Our Score: 10-9 Cain, 57-57 overall

Round 7: The round is almost identical to the last, with Edwards being the elusive out-fighter and Cain trying in vain to box him against the ropes. It's just not producing the kind of fireworks many had expected. However, there isn't much activity from Edwards right now.

Cain barely landing, but he's doing more than Edwards, at least, who is content with being in a defensive shell.

Our Score: 10-9 Cain, 67-66 Cain overall

Round 8: Edwards showing a flash of life this time around, not just moving around and forcing misses from Cain. He cracks Cain with a check hook, and another. Cain can't find a home for anything upstairs and resorts to body jabs.

Edwards, though, stays disciplined, landing jabs and straights in a more active round.

Our Score: 10-9 Edwards, 76-76 overall

Round 9: Not much different from the previous rounds, as Edwards look to play the counterpuncher, landing some good shots here and there. There's a bit more intent behind his shots than before, but the dynamic is largely the same. Cain continues to be the aggressor.

The difference is that Edwards has an easier time landing compared to Cain.

Our Score: 10-9 Edwards, 86-85 Edwards overall

Round 10: Edwards is showing more intent now, landing his left hand against a relentless Cain, who just can't get going. The pressure is there, but he's not landing clean, unfortunately. Edwards peppers him with a jab and straight left.

These are tough rounds to score, but Edwards is more active right now.

Our Score: 10-9 Edwards, 96-94 Edwards overall

Round 11: Cain with more pressure, finally closing the distance with more effectiveness on Edwards. He lands a good right hand, but he's still struggling to land with consistency. Not much activity frankly. Edwards returns fire with a right hand fo his own, but he's been on the backfoot.

This isn't the action-packed bout many were expecting it to be. It's a chess match of the highest order.

Our Score: 10-9 Cain, 105-104 Edwards overall

Round 12: Edwards on the backfoot, using his footwork and mobility still. He lands a few good shots, keeping it simple with jabs and one-twos against Cain, whose pressure is still there. It's not much activity, though, and it's down to Edwards being just a shade sharper.

Our Score: 10-9 Edwards, 115-113 Edwards overall

Official Result

Andrew Cain def. Charlie Edwards via split-decision win (115-114, 115-113, 116-112)
