UFC 287 is set to take place on April 8, 2023, and is headlined by Alex Pereira defending his middleweight title in a rematch against longtime rival Israel Adesanya.

'Poatan' captured the title from 'The Last Stylebender' at UFC 281 last year. Pereira won in stunning fashion, stopping his adversary in the fifth round whilst down on the scorecards and handing Adesanya his first loss at 185lbs.

Elsewhere on the card is the return of Jorge Masvidal, who will be taking on former title challenger Gilbert Burns. 'Gamebred' hasn't stepped into the octagon since March last year, when he infamously lost to Colby Covington and later attacked him outside a restaurant in Miami.

Israel Adesanya's coach weighs in on his immediate rematch with Alex Pereira at UFC 287

Eugene Bareman, head coach of City Kickboxing and coach of Israel Adesanya, has revealed that he'd wished 'The Last Stylebender' would take a little more time before rematching Alex Pereira.

In an appearance on Ariel Helwani's The MMA Hour, Bareman spoke about the rematch booked for UFC 287. Whilst the coach believes Adesanya can get the victory, he would have liked the Nigerian-New Zealander to have taken more time off to prepare physically and mentally:

"If I had a choice, which I quite often don't, then I would probably have waited longer and prepared - just to give Israel a little more time between a stoppage like that and the next fight. In an ideal world, I would have done what they do in boxing. I would've brought in a couple guys for Israel to warm up on and then fight Pereira, but we don't have that choice."

Bareman added:

"Quite frankly, Israel is 100% adamant that he must be the next person to fight Alex Pereira beyond all doubt. So much so that when they were talking about Pereira fighting at the end of last year, Israel was like, 'Okay then, we'll fight.' Before Israel had his surgeries and everything, Israel was prepared to take the fight on four to five weeks' notice if Pereira was willing to take the fight."
