Former ONE two-division champion Aung La N Sang wants nothing more than to regain his championship status within the promotion. However, he knows the right to compete for another world title is not a given and must be earned.
'The Burmese Python' is slated to face Japanese legend and fellow veteran Yushin Okami at ONE Championship 163. Aung La is 12-4 since joining ONE, while his opponent is just 1-2 in three appearances.
The 37-year-old recently spoke with ONE regarding his upcoming fight:
"I’ve been working on my weaknesses, and I think this fight is going to be a great fight for me to rebound and be on the right path in my attempt to get my [middleweight] title back."

Aung La has lost three of his last four bouts since beginning his ONE tenure by winning 10 of his first 11 contests. The pride of Myanmar is no stranger to big moments, taking part in nine title fights over the years.
Aung La N Sang is willing to climb back to the top
Picking up a win over Okami at ONE 163 might not be enough to warrant a title shot, but Aung La is fine with that. In fact, he's more than willing to grind his way back into a world title fight. He told SCMP MMA:
"I have really high-level grapplers at my disposal that I can work with. So it's not a matter of, ‘Can I do it?,’ it's a matter of when. It's going to take time, I'm probably going to have to beat a few more guys. So it is what it is. I'm willing to climb back to the top."
In the lead-up to his fight, 'The Burmese Python' has been focusing much of his training on grappling to better combat Okami's skills. Notably, fans have to go back to 2017, when Aung La beat Alain Ngalani to find his last submission victory.
