Aung La N Sang returns at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video

At ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video, Aung La N Sang will make his first appearance of the year against a late replacement opponent.

The former double champion will be attempting to put together back-to-back wins for the first time since 2019, making a quick turnaround from his win over Yushin Okami at ONE 163.

After his original opponent, Fan Rong, tested positive for COVID-19, Gilberto Galvao stepped in on late notice to face Aung La after being inactive since 2019.

Grateful to ONE Championship for finding him a replacement opponent, ‘The Burmese Python’ is confident that he can make the 215-pound catchweight that comes with facing a new rival on late notice.

In an interview with SCMP MMA, Aung La N Sang assured fans that he will be ready to step inside the circle on January 13:

“I didn’t have [problems] with weight. I had problems peeing [laughs], but yeah, it shouldn’t be a problem. My weight is there, my weight is around, it’s very close to the weight right now. It shouldn’t be a problem at all.”

Aung La N Sang not rushing to world title shot, just wants to entertain the fans

Though he has ambitions of returning to world title contention, Aung La N Sang is not in a rush to get a title shot.

The former two-division world champion knows that he needs to improve and that’s what he is focused on right now, aiming to sharpen his skills whilst putting on a show for the fans.

‘The Burmese Python’ is still targeting reclaiming his ONE middleweight world title that he lost to Reinier de Ridder. By keeping himself active in competition, Aung La believes he has the best chance of reclaiming his world title when the opportunity comes up.

Aung La N Sang told SCMP MMA:

“I’m sure de Ridder’s gonna need some time off, so it’s okay. I wanna stay active. I wanna keep improving as a mixed martial artist; fill in some of my holes. And just keep being a better mixed martial artist and also just keep putting on exciting shows for the fans. That to me is very important. I wanna see exciting bouts… As a fan, I wanna put on great shows for the fans as well.”

The American-Burmese fighter once simultaneously held the middleweight and light heavyweight world titles before losing them in successive fashion to de Ridder.

Aung La N Sang returns to the circle at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13 in Bangkok. He will face off with the returning ‘Giba' Gilberto Galvao of Brazil in a catchweight mixed martial arts showdown.
