ONE Championship legend Aung La N Sang is feeling as good as ever heading into his highly-anticipated scrap with fellow mixed martial arts legend Yushin ‘Thunder’ Okami.

‘The Burmese Python’ has certainly seen better days inside the circle. Since 2020, Aung La has gone 1-3 in his last four outings, including back-to-back losses to Reinier de Ridder, costing him the middleweight and light heavyweight world titles, falling to former middleweight world champion Vitaly Bigdash at ONE: Full Circle in February.

Just days out from a return at ONE 163, Aung La N Sang sat down with The MMA Superfan to discuss his preparations for the matchup with Okami and how he feels walking into the bout that many believe is a must-win for the former dual-world champion:

“I think [I’m] more powerful right now, I think I’m sharper now. And I just had to get to the fight healthy and a hundred percent then it’s gonna be a fun fun one.”

Aung La N Sang’s training helps him to overcome the pressure of the moment

Given the importance of his upcoming bout and the need to secure a win, the pressure of the moment could be overwhelming for many fighters, but not Aung La N Sang.

‘The Burmese Python’ puts his faith in training to get him through, both mentally and physically. During an interview with Tom Taylor of the South China Morning Post, Aung La said this of how he deals with the pressure:

“The training is what gives me that. My training and the work that I put in, is what makes the pressure not so much of a pressure. If I can honestly look at myself and tell myself that I did everything I'm supposed to, then there's no pressure.”

Win or lose, as long as he implements his training to the best of his ability, the pressure will take care of itself:

“What more can you do in life than the best that you can get? Besides that, I don't really have pressure, I don't really care. I don't really, there's no pressure in my mind. I'm just trying to be the best version of myself.”
