Aung La N Sang is inspired by the need for improvement in fighting skills.
‘The Burmese Python’ is one of three ONE Championship fighters to become a two-division MMA world champion. Yet he’s not satisfied with his level of skills. During an interview with SCMP MMA, Aung La had this to say about why he still competes:
“Well, I need to get better. I need to be more well-rounded. And I need to be better in all aspects of mixed martial arts. That's the reason why I still compete. It's because I want to keep growing, and I want to keep evolving as a mixed martial artist.”
Aung La’s need for improvement likely comes from his recent four-fight stretch. ‘The Burmese Python’ has lost three out of his last four fights after dominating with a seven-fight win streak. Luckily, the former two-division champion has an incredible team in Kill Cliff MMA to prepare him for a potential war against Yushin Okami at ONE Championship 163.

Aung La N Sang expects exciting fight against Yushin Okami
Aung La N Sang doesn’t necessarily need a win at ONE Championship 163, but it would help him get back to a world title opportunity. Waiting for the Kill Cliff MMA fighter is 41-year-old Yushin Okami, who has not fought in three years. During the same interview, Aung La had this to say about his training camp and expectations for fighting Okami:
"Good, everything's good. Training camp is going well. I'm just excited to get back and showcase what I've been working on in the last half year. We've done everything we need to, we're now just doing the final touches. And you guys are going to see a new version of me and an exciting fight between Okami and me."
Regardless of Okami’s inactivity, the Japanese-born fighter always shows up for a war. Meanwhile, Aung La needs to silence the doubters and prove he can still be a world champion. At 37 years old, ‘The Burmese Python’ could be back on track with a win at ONE 163.
