Burmese-American fighter Aung La N Sang is staying in the middleweight lane and has no plans of going for the ONE Championship light heavyweight world title, which he once held, in the immediate future.
While he is not totally closing the door on another stab at the light heavyweight gold now held by Anatoly Malykhin, it is at middleweight where he will be focusing and spending much of his time.
In an interview with SCMP MMA, Aung La N Sang said:

“I’m gonna stay at middleweight, you know. I mean, for sure, middleweight. I’m gonna stay at middleweight. You never know what can happen in this world, you never know. I mean if it makes sense, you know, you’ll never know though.”
‘The Burmese Python’ once simultaneously held the middleweight and light heavyweight world titles before losing them in successive fashion to Reinier de Ridder. He has since been working hard and getting as much action as he can on the road to reclaiming the middleweight belt.
Aung La N Sang gets his 2023 campaign going at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13 in Bangkok, Thailand. He is scheduled to face Brazilian fighter Gilberto Galvao in a catchweight mixed martial arts battle.
The event is live and free for North American fans with an active Prime Video subscription.
Aung La N Sang believes he can finish tough Gilberto Galvao
Former two-division world champion Aung La N Sang is out to begin 2023 with a bang and looking to finish Gilberto Galvao in their scheduled encounter at ONE Fight Night 6 later this week.
The two veteran fighters will be featured in a catchweight mixed martial arts showdown, part of ONE Championship’s first live event offering this year on January 13 in Bangkok.
‘The Burmese Python’ has made it known that he believes he can finish Galvao and will go for it if the opportunity presents itself. He also said he does not want the fight to be decided by points.
He told ONE Championship in an interview:
“If you watch any of my fights, I’m always looking for the finish. I want to get the finish and I’m going to work hard to get the finish.”
He added:
"Fans don’t want to see fights [won] by points, they want to see finishes and they want to see great skills, and that’s what I feel like I’m gonna bring to the table in this fight."
Aung La N Sang is fighting on a short turnaround, having fought only last November, beating Yushin Okami. Galvao, for his part, is coming off a lengthy absence of nearly four years.
